This group is responsible for the update of DOE Manual 460.2-1, Radioactive Material Transportation Practices Manual.  This manual was issued on September 23, 2002, and establishes a set of standard transportation practices for U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) programs to use in planning and executing offsite shipments of radioactive materials including radioactive waste.  The manual was developed in response to recommendations from various DOE programs and external stakeholders.  A writing group was convened to evaluate the shipping practices being used or planned for use throughout the Department, document them, and, where appropriate, standardize them.  The results of this effort are reflected in the Manual.  Since the Manual was issued, there have been changes in regulatory requirements and organizational changes that need to be addressed.  The Manual Topic Group will once again review the practices and make recommendations on changes, etc., before it is put into the formal Departmental review and comment process for DOE directives.
